Welcome to St Vincent’s Health Australia

St Vincent’s Health Australia (SVHA) is the nation’s largest not-for-profit Catholic health and aged care provider. We are a clinical, research and education leader working in private hospitals, public hospitals and aged care services in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

SVHA conducts its services on land that has been cared for by the Indigenous peoples of this country over countless generations. We pay our respects to their elders past and present and take this opportunity to once more reaffirm our commitment to walk with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander brothers and sisters as we work for reconciliation, peace and justice in the delivery of health care for all Australians.

Our heritage

The Sisters of Charity established the first Catholic hospital in Australia in 1857, St Vincent's Hospital Sydney. On 1 July 2009, the Sisters of Charity continued this pioneering spirit in establishing Mary Aikenhead Ministries. Led by a group of Trustees, Mary Aikenhead Ministries has responsibility to continue the mission of health, education and some of the welfare ministries formerly conducted by the Sisters of Charity. St Vincent’s Health Australia is proud to serve as a ministry of the Catholic Church in Australia under the stewardship of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
